Fully equipped 220 m2 cottage in traditional Portuguese style, with 5 bedrooms, near the beautiful village of Palmela (its well-preserved medieval castle is visible from the garden), with an enormous garden, a fenced-off swimming pool (there is an outhouse with a toilet and 2 showers that serve the pool), a Balinese sunbed, a big barbecue, a very big lawn, a football pitch with football goals, a basketball basket, a small pine tree forest, and a private orchard with several fruit trees (guests can help themselves to any fruit they wish! Depending on the season, there are honey figs, pomegranates, quinces, plums, oranges, clementines, mandarines, etc.).

The property is walled all around and has an automatic gate at the entrance. Garage for two cars and parking spaces for many others.

All appliances, kitchenware, towels and bed linens are included. Just bring your own beach towel! TV, DVD player, several DVDs, strong Wi-Fi.

A baby cot and a baby high chair are available at no extra cost. There is also an extra individual mattress which makes it possible to lodge a 10th person. In that case, 250 euros extra will be charged per week for that person.

THE HOUSE:

Ground floor: There are 2 bedrooms, each with a double bed, a bathroom with a bathtub, the kitchen, the big living-room (which features the sofa area around the fireplace and the dining area), and a conservatory (summer dining-room).

Upstairs: There are 2 bedrooms, each with a double bed, and one bedroom with a single's bed (the latter does not have a window but is cosy nonetheless) plus a bathroom with a shower cabin.

THE SURROUNDINGS:

Lisbon airport and Lisbon centre are both +/- 35 min away.

The beautiful Castle of Palmela, which features a truly spectacular 360 degree view, is only 5 minutes away by car (if you care for History, don't miss visitng the Castle, built in the 12th century to defend the territory from the Moors, together with the castles of Sesimbra and Setúbal)

Beaches (Arrábida to one side, Sesimbra to the other, Fonte da Telha/Praia do Meco - a nudist beach - to the other): all between 20 and 30 minutes away.

Train station (Fertagus train, which crosses the Tagus bridge and stops all over Lisbon): 10 min.

Very near the paradise-like Arrábida natural park and the famous Tróia peninsula (where celebrities like Monaco's royal family have their summer houses).

Golf courses, vineyards, wineries, and countless other points of interest nearby.

Wide choice of restaurants in the area (some very good) at very affordable prices (most restaurants in Portugal are very cheap when compared to other EU countries). See below for a list of restaurants.

There are also several cafés with sunny terraces, both in Palmela itself and in Setúbal.

All sorts of shops available nearby, including several supermarkets, all open 7 days a week until 9 p.m. at least.

SETÚBAL:

The very interesting city of Setúbal (famous for its views, wines and excellent seaside fish restaurants) with everything you need is only 15 minutes away. Do not miss the Mercado do Livramento - it is considered one of the best fruit, vegetable and fish markets in the world (open every day until 2 pm)!

Not to be missed: the exciting dolphin watching in the Sado river. Just take any of the many organised boat excursions that depart from Setúbal's port. 

A walk along the Setúbal sea promenade and its beach is also very much worth doing.

There are several belvederes with wonderful views (the closest one in the Castle of Palmela, 5 minutes away).

NOTE:

Before arriving at the house, you will receive a mail with all sorts of detailed information and recommendations. You will also be greeted with a nice basket of goodies (wine, cheese, etc.). Rita, the property manager (and owner's sister), will be waiting for you with the keys, a smile, useful tips and the answers to any questions you may have. She can also shop for you so you have food in the house if you arrive late. This service costs 20 euros.
